I should have known years ago that Charlotte was meant to be our home. I named my kitty Charlotte!
She and her sister Wynnie, both rescues, made the trip with me to the Queen City, along with my husband, son and dog Nikki. We wanted a beautiful place to put down roots and I know we've found it!
I'm so excited to join Brien at the anchor desk every weeknight at 6 and 10 to bring the latest news and show you how we get results.
Born to Chilean American parents, I grew up in Miami, Florida enjoying the beach, Cuban food and wishing I was one of the reporters getting thrown around in tropical storms. That's what kickstarted my passion for journalism, leading me first to University of Florida, then University of Maryland College Park for my graduate degree.
After getting rejected by more than 40 TV stations, I finally got a job in Eau Claire, Wisconsin as a one-man-band. Then came almost 4 years in Green Bay where the Packers led our newscasts and cheese curds were a delicious delicacy.
I joined ABC News as a Chicago-based correspondent and jumped right into the 2008 presidential campaign, reporting live from Grant Park on election night as Barack Obama made history. A move to the west coast followed where I reported from the red carpet for two Academy Awards, and covered some of the biggest stories of our time including the Chilean miner rescue, the disaster in Japan and the Royal Wedding.
From there, I went to NBC as a West Coast based Today Show correspondent where I did several newsmaker interviews and covered huge trials. My most memorable story though was during a wildfire. I smelled smoke during my liveshot for Nighty News and realized my shoe was on fire.
It was an exciting time to say the least but now I'm happiest spending time with the two loves of my life - my husband and my son and our furry friends. I'm looking forward to exploring the Queen City and getting to know all of you. If you have advice for how to truly enjoy this wonderful place, please don't be shy!
There are no strangers, just friends I haven't yet met.
