Chief Meteorologist

This position reports to the VP, News Director. Oversees the daily operations of the weather department by performing the following duties:

Required Skills:

Must have experience in severe weather coverage and knowledge of industry-standard broadcast weather computer and radar systems. Must be able to sustain severe weather coverage, esp. during tornado warnings. Must be a great communicator and tell a compelling weather story especially on days when the weather is quiet. Must demonstrate experience in use of alert systems to disseminate weather information across multiple platforms. Must excel in social media and be willing and able to win weather coverage versus other local meteorologists on social platforms. Must have ability to shoot, edit and report stories as well as do traditional weathercasts. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred. Performs the essential duties and responsibilities of a weather anchor for assigned newscasts. Schedules weather personnel. Works with vendors and suppliers to keep weather equipment fully functional and up to date. Prepares and implements a severe weather plan. Establishes a philosophy for the best delivery of weather information to the public. Assists with the maintenance of story boxes in the newsroom computer system including updating files and noting possible story ideas. Reviews newscasts to ensure objectives are attained. Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines. Attends and participates in all scheduled meetings. Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX. Assists News Director with preparation of weather staff performance appraisals. Other duties as assigned. Four year degree required. Must be certified as a Meteorologist. Must be flexible and able to work overtime, holidays and varied hours required.

Anchor / DJ

WJZY, the FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC is looking for a News Anchor/Digital Journalist.  A prime position is open in a great Southern city. Our new morning anchor will be a highly-motivated journalist first and foremost.  The anchor must be able to handle hard news with the same skill as light interviews and cooking segments. Do it all, while posting to social media and engaging viewers/fans/followers.  This job is for you, if you want to become an integral part of the Charlotte community.  FOX46 is part of the newsroom of the future movement and you will be expected to shoot, write and edit your own stories.  We’re looking for a newsroom leader. A minimum of 3 years’ experience reporting and anchoring news is required. Excellent communication and writing skills for both broadcast and digital platforms are required. Some training will be provided, if needed. A bachelor’s degree in communications preferred.

Digital Journalist / Anchor

WJZY-TV, the FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Digital Journalist, with anchoring skills.  We need the total MMJ package: someone who can do their own hard news and breaking news morning live shots 3 days a week.  You will need to be quick on your feet with a desire to beat the other stations each and every day. This Digital Journalist also co-anchors and helps write a Saturday and Sunday morning news show that is a mix of hard news and lifestyle interviews.  FOX46 is a dynamic newsroom; part of the “newsroom of the future” movement. You will be working with 21st century newsgathering technology, operating as a self-contained and mobile content generator. This Digital Journalist will have the opportunity to get attention for the right reasons and to Get Results for the community.

A minimum of 2 years’ experience reporting news and 1 year anchoring is required. Excellent communication and writing and grammar skills are required for both the broadcast and digital platforms.  Must be willing to work weekends. A Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism preferred. Some training will be provided if needed.

Producer / Booker

The Producer/Booker is a news content expert responsible for growing our audience through the coordination of programming and news department segments, series and quests by performing the following duties: Conceptualizing, producing and booking highly creative and localized segments for the morning newscasts. This includes post and pre-game shows.  Conceptualize, execute and enhance the vision and philosophy of news content management. Oversee content of newscasts and proactively act as the “go-to” person for booking compelling and relevant guests for Good Day Charlotte during the weekdays, weekends and post and pre-game shows with a focus on audience growth. Participants and experts should resonate with a large portion of the Charlotte market. Greet, escort and ensure guests are properly equipped with mic and any other equipment the guest (s) might need during the weekday morning show. Encourage guests on GDC to post on social media to their fan base before and after appearances.  Assist with taking photos. Develop creative new ideas and segments in a professional manner to keep the shows fresh with local content for all newscasts including GDC. Must attend all

editorial meetings during shift. Act as a liaison with the Promotions department to assist with the booking

and execution of satellite live shots to support high profile guests and series. Identify and communicate with Promotions department which stories and/or shows need to be cross-promoted. Oversee gathering of viewer advocacy stories and vet which ones are relevant enough to air. Creatively use skills to produce

great TV. Utilize networks of contacts (i.e. PR) to secure celebrity guests visiting Charlotte. Develop contacts in other markets to borrow successful concepts. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Communication. News Production preferred. Must possess a minimum of five years’ experience in a television newsroom or comparable. Ideal candidate must have strong oral & written skill set in social media; strong people and leadership skills and exceptional communication skills with a strong work ethic. Must be highly creative and able to visualize and execute compelling television segments. Organization and outstanding news and content judgement are essential in this role.  Capable to react quickly to breaking news. Working knowledge of libel laws, journalistic ethics and contest rules. Proficiency with newsroom computer systems (iNews, AVID, etc.) and satellite news gathering.

Account Executive

WJZY & WMYT, FOX owned duopoly in Charlotte, NC is looking for an Account Executive.  Ideal candidate will be a sales professional with a minimum 4 years media sales experience.  Responsible for growing transactional list, developing new business & selling digital products by maximizing opportunities.  Must develop & maintain relationships with clients. Excellent oral & written communications skills required.  Prior experience with WideOrbit pref. Candidate must be detailed oriented, resourceful, team player, reliable and a self-starter. Maintain timely paperwork and reports relating to sales activities. Excellent and detailed service on all accounts is expected and required.  Must have or be willing to obtain and drive reliable transportation and have a valid driver’s license. Local travel and varied hours required.  Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Experience: Industry experience required; TV Sales preferred.

News Operations Manager

The news operations manager reports to the VP/News Director and Assistant News Director. This person is responsible for the day-to-day news and administrative operation. Supervises all field operations for WJZY/WMYT, including the supervision of all field crews for News and "Good Day Charlotte" and Editors; Also responsible for the booking, scheduling and assigning of personnel and equipment for all field related operations; Assists in the evaluation, budgeting and purchasing of all field related equipment. Maintains equipment and constantly monitors systems for accountability. Oversees all aspects of news coverage including daily assignments, coverage of big events, as well as planning; Responsible for the manner in which breaking news is covered and how the desk reacts to big stories; trains, coaches and monitors the progress of Digital Journalists and Photojournalists. Maintains and troubleshoots all newsroom equipment. Helps plan special projects including special programming and live remote shows. Works closely with Production Operations Manager. Has working knowledge of newsroom budget and A/P invoice system. Assists in the development of story ideas and execution; Manages all news video including feeds for quality control. Resolves technical and editorial problems within editing. Manages video archiving for news purposes and FCC regulations. Oversees news dubs for clients, subpoenas and other programming. Maintains strong and close working relationship with news management team to resolve problems and create and execute new ideas. Remains knowledgeable on current events. Stays current on station

technology as well as other technologies for potential inclusion in WJZY operations. Evaluates new technology and make recommendations for budgets. Edits for newscasts and special projects. Reports to work to assist with newscasts outside the normal work schedule at times of severe weather conditions or breaking news. Assists with staff performance appraisal process. Maintains and tracks all equipment assigned to news staff. Maintains systems for accountability and quality control. Acts as a liaison between

BitCentral. Functions as liaison between News, Engineering and IT Departments. Coordinates purchase, maintenance and repair of all station cell phones and air cards, and other equipment. Assembles, maintains and distributes internet transmission tools and laptop-to-go kits. Trains news staff on internet transmission tools. Maintains user interface and trains staff with the FOX Fiber News Network. Complies with all FTS computer requirements – myfoxpay, Navigator training, password protection, etc. Complies with all FTS and Station policies.  Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in all aspects of field operations.

ENG/Production Photographer and KA truck operation, Knowledge of automobile and truck repair, Knowledge of newsroom computer systems, satellite and microwave news, gathering. Good interpersonal and communication skills required, Minimum two years management experience preferred. Must possess strong leadership/motivational skills. Must be excellent teacher and coach.

Assistant News Director

Assists the VP/News Director in the overall daily management and strategic planning of the News Department, including supervision of the Executive Producers, Producers, Weather, Sports, Digital and the Special Projects Department.  Leads the newsroom on various social media platforms in order to connect with and consistently engage the audiences/users available to the company on all platforms.  Will have primary oversight of the content gathering selections made during editorial meetings to evaluate selections on a daily basis for appropriateness of the audiences addressed and for adherence to the Fox 46 brand.  Acts as primary point person in big breaking news, Coaches storytelling, writing and production value. Assists in recruitment of on air talent. Manages, evaluates, and monitors employee performance on an on-going basis. Scheduling and other administrative duties as assigned. Communication and cooperation with other departments. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills: 4 year college degree required with emphasis in Communications or Journalism preferred.  Minimum of 7 years as an Assistant News Director or Executive Producer in a major market.  Must have excellent supervisory and management skills. Must be a good coach and willing to train and mentor less experienced managers and employees.  Must have exceptional editorial judgment and the ability to deliver compelling live television, as well as timely and consistent compelling comment in social media and online.  Must have experience working with newsroom budgets and a strong background in legal and ethical issues as it relates to the newsgathering process. Must have the ability to challenge employees to grow and develop newsgathering and reporting skills to consistently deliver informative, compelling and accurate newscasts.  Must be able to use newsroom computer systems, including AVID iNews and AVID search, editing and graphics programs.

News Producer

The FOX Owned and Operated television station in Charlotte, NC, seeks a talented news producer. The ideal candidate must be creative, energetic, have great editorial judgment and social media savvy.  Level of performance requires a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style. Responsible for production of stories to include: setting up the story, interviews, writing, and graphic coordination.  Research stories online and on telephone with appropriate sources and contacts. Aggressively participates in covering breaking news in and out of newscasts. Coordinate with web/social team to coordinate coverage for online and on-air. Log and edit video for inclusion on scripts. Responsible for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the newscast is on the air.  Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction to crews in the field and in

studio. Collaborate with Executive Producer prior to air and during newscast about changes. Partners with newscast director before, during and after newscast to accomplish creative and clean production. Work

with reporters to develop story scripts.  Edit reporter scripts and provide feedback. Assign voiceovers and VO-SOTs to reporters and anchors. Via phone, and in person work with on-air staff to assist with story

development and/or story support. Supervise and oversee the writers assigned to the shift.  Assign writing ideas to APs.  Edit AP scripts and provide feedback. Maintain open communication with News Director, the news management team and all station personnel to efficiently, respectfully and professionally complete news assignments. Participates in news meetings to provide story and production ideas for any and all newscasts. Participate in special projects and programming. Available to work outside of scheduled hours. Constantly uses verbal, audible, and visual abilities to perform essential functions.  Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Sits for extended period of time in order to accomplish essential duties. Attend and participate in any company training seminars, meetings or other attendance required events. Comply with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines related activities. Occasionally bends stoops and crouches to arrange copy/script paper for work related functions.

Must possess a minimum of 2 years television news writing and producing experience. College degree in journalism or equivalent is required. iNews and Adobe Premiere Pro experience preferred. Must possess excellent news judgment. Knowledge of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area is preferred. Dependability, strong writing skills and accuracy are crucial.

IT Support Technician

This position assists FTS personnel with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. Support includes specification, installation, and repair of computers systems and peripherals within established FTS standards and guidelines. Activities require interaction with other members of the FTS IT team to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems. The employee in this position also assists in the maintenance, deployment, and problem solving associated with servers and networking devices. Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and judgment. 

Functions/Responsibilities: Provide PC technical support to FTS employees. This includes the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop laptop computers, mobile devices and peripheral

technology. Ensure systems interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems and Active Directory resources. Back up station’s IT Manager and assist with maintaining station’s servers and network. This

includes technical support for the file servers on the “primary Active Directory domain”. Recommends and performs hardware and software upgrades on systems to ensure security, reliability, performance and longevity. Ensure system configurations and operations are in compliance with company policies and procedures. Maintain hardware/software inventories for all IT managed technologies. Works with support vendors to troubleshoot technical problems on PCs, servers and software. Assist with the creation and maintenance of technical documents used for planning and support of local servers and networks. Deploy new or upgraded technologies as defined in approved projects. Assist in information gathering associated with asset management and IT initiatives on an as-needed basis.

Experience & Job Skills: 5+ years supporting Windows PCs, Servers; 3+ years supporting a user base >75 people; 2+ years’ basic IP networking. Must be able to resolve issues and isolate faults methodically. Able to follow defined procedure and processes. Able to deal with frequent change, and unexpected events. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness. Exhibits sound and accurate judgment and logical reasoning. Ability to learn quickly. BS / BA in Computer Science (or equivalent in experience).
