This position reports to the Production & Operations Manager. The Audio technician will operate the audio board during live newscasts and other productions, properly mixing various sources including anchor mics, audio from live remotes, animated opens and video clips. Responsibilities and duties include: Operate audio board during fast-paced newscasts, mixing various sources including anchor mics, audio from live remotes, animated opens and video clips. Maintain wireless mic and IFB packs, ensuring fresh batteries before each show. Responsible for monitoring crews that are dialing in on IFB lines and obtaining mic checks from talent before each live shot. Must be able to route the proper mix-minus audio sub-mix to each IFB line. Must be able to put live callers on the air. Ensure that the correct audio mix is going out to our Closed Captioning vendor at all times. Ability to help troubleshoot audio issues with input from our engineers. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills: A thorough understanding and knowledge of broadcast TV production is desired, including but not limited to the following assignments: studio camera operation; floor director; operating jib camera; maintaining the condition of the studio, sets and props with periodic cleanings. The candidate will be responsible for daily communication with police and government officials and agencies. The incumbent must develop reliable sources to help in obtaining, and confirming information for newscasts. Research Essential Functions:
Analyze and evaluate all audience measurement systems and all ratings data for internal & external use.
Conduct, analyze and interpret special Nielsen studies. Interpret findings for other departments.
Maintain all research systems (TVScan, Qualitap, Nielsen, Sorenson, Comscore. Maintain Nielsen station information and remain current with Nielsen related issues. Create Qualitative profiles and positioning pieces for Sales, News and Programming. Create rating estimates for Sales master planners and avails system. Programming Essential Functions:
Evaluate new and current programming. Provide analysis of program acquisitions (estimate rational, lead-in and lead-out share, key demo trending.) Prepare and distribute program orders and communicate network, syndicated and local program format information. Perform program episode scheduling through the Wide Orbit system, or similar system, coordinate house number system, communicate relevant information to impacted departments, and prepare monthly usage reports. Maintain program contract information in the Wide Orbit system under supervision of the Regional VP of Finance. Review paid programs to ensure compliance with FTS policy. Maintain paid programming library, coordinate paid program scheduling with Sales, Traffic and Production. It is an essential part of all newsroom employees to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on the employee’s day off he/she may be required to participate, if requested. Varied hours may also be required based on the needs of the department. From time to time may be required to produce newscasts to help cover sick/vacation time of others. As part of the news team, holidays that fall Monday through Friday will be worked, time-off requests are approved by management. No vacations will be approved one week prior and during television-rating periods.
