Photojournalist (Full-Time Regular)
Award winning broadcaster, WJZY-TV, the FOX Owned and Operated duopoly television station in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Photojournalist with an eye to shoot, edit and gather sound from newsworthy events, locations or people for use in newscasts by performing the following duties: Shoots and edits breaking stories, live shots and other news stories as assigned. Occasionally writes packages and/or assembles natural sound packages. Gathers news in the field independently. Assist in gathering and posting stories on-line and to air. Must have the ability to visually tell compelling stories. Operates video camera and audio equipment creatively in diverse conditions and at times under extreme deadlines. Assists Operations department with studio camera and floor management. Operates all live technology (i.e. Live U, KA trucks, etc.). Drives and operates company vehicles in a safe and defensive manner. This includes driving in heavy metropolitan traffic, at night and in bad weather. Edits videotape for playback for air. Operates microwave trucks. Maintains vehicle and news gathering equipment properly. Assist with newscasts outside the normal work schedule at time of severe weather conditions or breaking news. Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines. Must be involved in Social Media. Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX. Supports Local News Service as assigned. Chief Meteorologist (Full-Time Regular)
Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY, the Fox Owned and Operated television station in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Chief Meteorologist. This position reports to the VP, News Director. Oversees the daily operations of the weather department by performing the following duties: Must have experience in severe weather coverage and knowledge of industry-standard broadcast weather computer and radar systems. Must be able to sustain severe weather coverage, esp. during tornado warnings. Must be a great communicator and tell a compelling weather story especially on days when the weather is quiet. Must demonstrate experience in use of alert systems to disseminate weather information across multiple platforms. Must excel in social media and be willing and able to win weather coverage versus other local meteorologists on social platforms. Must have ability to shoot, edit and report stories as well as do traditional weathercasts. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred. Performs the essential duties and responsibilities of a weather anchor for assigned newscasts. Schedules weather personnel. Works with vendors and suppliers to keep weather equipment fully functional and up to date. Prepares and implements a severe weather plan. Establishes a philosophy for the best delivery of weather information to the public. Assists with the maintenance of story boxes in the newsroom computer system including updating files and noting possible story ideas. Reviews newscasts to ensure objectives are attained. Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines. Attends and participates in all scheduled meetings. Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX. Assists News Director with preparation of weather staff performance appraisals. Must be certified as a Meteorologist. Must be flexible and able to work overtime, holidays and varied hours required. Complies with all FTS computer requirements – myfoxpay, Navigator training, password protection, computer usage, etc. Complies with all FTS and Station policies – Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Insider Trading, etc. Other duties as assigned. Associate Producer (Full-Time Regular)
Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY and WMYT, the Fox Owned & Operated television station serving the Charlotte, NC region is seeking a quick-thinking Associate Producer / Editor. The ideal candidate will write and edit stories for news programs. Select appropriate video and sound for stories. Assist anchors, reporters and producers in preparing stories for broadcast and the web. Work with the assignment desk in gathering information. Produce newscasts as needed under management supervision. Strong creative writing skills and editorial judgment are a must. Working knowledge of newsroom computer systems, the Internet, graphic and production equipment is desirable. Must work well under deadline pressure. Ability to juggle packages and VO-SOTS along with special projects in a high-pressure news environment. Experience with digital non-linear software is a must; knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is a plus. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Content Management systems like BitCentral and should be willing and able to pick up a camera and shoot news when needed. Complies with all FTS computer requirements – myfoxpay, Navigator training, password protection, computer usage, etc. Complies with all FTS and Station policies – Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Insider Trading, etc. College degree in applicable discipline such as broadcast journalism, communications, or equivalent job experience is preferred. Minimum of one year editing news or entertainment programming preferred.
It is an essential part of all newsroom employees to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on the employee’s day off he/she may be required to participate, if requested. Varied hours may also be required based on the needs of the department. From time to time may be required to produce newscasts to help cover sick/vacation time of others. As part of the news team, holidays that fall Monday through Friday will be worked, time-off requests are approved by management. No vacations will be approved one week prior and during television-rating periods.
