Broadcast Maintenance Engineer ( Full-Time)

Edward R Murrow Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY and WMYT, the Fox O & O serving the Charlotte, NC region is seeking a Maintenance Engineer / Digital Systems.  The Maintenance Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager and will support studio production and station operations on varying shifts to meet the operational needs.  The ideal candidate must remain in compliance with FCC, OSHA, SMPTE/IEEE, and ATSC standards while performing engineering tasks.  Duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer include, but are not limited to: but not limited to studio news technical support, master control automation and technical workflow, and on air signal distribution. The maintenance engineer is responsible to repair and maintain equipment to the highest engineering standards and complete assigned projects on deadline.

• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
In depth knowledge of broadcast technical equipment including IP based equipment
Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to understand and implement written procedures and directives. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships. Maintain confidentiality regarding company information

• Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experiences

Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent broadcast experience.

Experience: 3 years engineering experience working in a TV broadcast news environment.

Credentials: Must have a valid driver’s license.

Executive Producer of Special Projects

Edward R Murrow Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY, the FOX O&O duopoly in Charlotte, NC is looking for a leader/motivator/idea machine/social media addict to be our Executive Producer of Special Programs. Duties include producing sports and news specials. Specials projects may be live or taped; in studio or on location and include regularly scheduled programming and breaking news. Some fill-in news producing may be included. Social media proficiency and leadership is required.  Editing experience required and videography experience is helpful. If you want to make your mark with innovation and intelligence, we want you to join our team. Fox 46 is committed to the “Getting Results” brand. The ideal candidate will be responsible for compiling stories, video, wire copy, in-field interviews, coordinating video/graphics, social media, etc. and must possess a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style. Work with newsroom staff (Reporters, Anchors, Producers, etc.) in story selection and script development. Coordinate social media and web coverage and support the Senior Web Producer and the Director of Social Media.  Make contacts with relevant sports figures and newsmakers.  Accountable for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the program is on the air.  Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction.  Supervise APs assigned to the shift and writing ideas. Edit Reporter scripts and provide feedback and assign voiceovers and VO-SOTs to Reporters and Anchors. Provide support for graphics personnel by drawing rudimentary instructions (concepts) for graphics personnel. Work closely with assignment desk to coordinate live shots and photographer assignments.  Stay informed on current news and sports events.  Attend and participate in news department meetings.  Must be able to sit for extended period of time and occasionally bend, stoop and crouch in order to accomplish essential duties.  Must be able to arrange, lift or move equipment up to 25 lbs.  Other duties as assigned.  Bachelor’s degree required, with emphasis on journalism and/or communications.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience producing on local or national news broadcast. Management experience preferred. Must notify HR Director immediately of any changes in the status of driver’s license.  

Executive Producer (Full-Time)

Edward R Murrow Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY, the FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC is looking for a talented and visionary Executive Producer. The Executive Producer will be responsible for managing our 10 o’clock newscast in a highly-competitive late news environment. The priorities are to: Win Weather, breaking news and social media while emphasizing the Getting Results brand. Besides managing the show stacking, grammar, spelling, writing and graphics for the on-air presentation, you will also partner with HR to recruit, train and manage producers and associate producers. The night side EP will also manage and coach MMJs on their broadcast and digital contributions. You will be expected to line produce on a fill-in basis. The ideal candidate will bring great ideas every day and know how to use varied technologies and be creative with graphics and presentation styles.  Must have the ability to be a newsroom leader with good organization and interpersonal skills. Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with emphasis on journalism and/or communications.  Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience producing on a local or national news broadcast preferred. Management experience preferred but not required.

News Producer (Full-Time)

Edward R Murrow Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY, the FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC is looking for a talented News Producer.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for daily production of newscast (s) to include: setting up the story, interviews, writing, graphic coordination and social media posting. Must become very knowledgeable about the Charlotte region and develop meaningful contacts. Become fluent with the Fox 46 news brand and strive for excellence in headline writing skills. Research stories online and on telephone with appropriate sources and contacts. Level of performance requires a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style.  Aggressively participates in covering breaking news in and out of newscasts. Coordinate with web/social team to coordinate coverage for online and on-air. Log and edit video for inclusion on scripts.  Accountable for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the newscast is on the air.  Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction to crews in the field and in studio.  Collaborate with Executive Producer prior to air and during newscast about changes. Partner with newscast director before, during and after newscast to accomplish creative and clean production. Work with reporters to develop story scripts.  Edits reporter scripts and provides feedback. Assign voice overs and VO-SOTs to reporters and anchors. Work with on-air staff by phone and in person to assist with story development and/or story support.  Supervise and oversee the writers assigned to the shift.  Assign writing ideas to APs.  Edit AP scripts and provide feedback. Maintain open communication with News Director, the news management team and all station personnel to efficiently, respectfully and professionally complete news assignments.  Participates in news meetings to provide story and production ideas for any and all newscasts.  Participate in special projects and programming.  Available to work outside of scheduled hours. Constantly uses verbal, audible, and visual abilities to perform essential functions. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Sits for extended period of time in order to accomplish essential duties.  Attend and participate in any company training seminars, meetings or other attendance required events.  Comply with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines related activities.  Occasionally bends stoops and crouches to arrange copy/script paper for work related functions.  Constantly operates PC to complete required news items and related materials.  Must possess a minimum of 2 years’ television news writing and producing experience. Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or equivalent is required. iNews and Adobe Premiere Pro experience preferred. Must possess excellent news judgment. Knowledge of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area is preferred. Dependability, strong writing skills and accuracy are crucial.

News Schedules:

It is an essential part of all newsroom employees to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on the employee’s day off he/she may be required to participate, if requested. Varied hours may also be required based on the needs of the department. From time to time may be required to produce newscasts to help cover sick/vacation time of others. As part of the news team, holidays that fall Monday through Friday will be worked, time-off requests are approved by management. No vacations will be approved one week prior and during television-rating periods.
