The ideal candidate will have experience as both a director and a technical director, with a hands-on understanding of the Sony 7000, 4M/E switcher or similar systems. Knowledge of Chyron ISQ, Mosaic, and Powerclyps; BitCentral, and Avid iNews is also preferred. The ideal candidate must be able to handle fast-paced and quick changing newscasts, breaking news and weather events. These newscasts have a broad range of segments which include, but are not limited to: in studio guests, multiple live shots, anchor movement throughout the studio, combined animations and heavy use of graphics. The Newscast Director’s responsibilities include audio mixing, floor directing, studio camera operation and jib as well as other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Duties include producing sports and news specials. Specials projects may be live or taped; in studio or on location and include regularly scheduled programming and breaking news. Some fill-in news producing may be included. Social media proficiency and leadership is required. Editing experience required and videography experience is helpful. Occasionally writes packages and/or assembles natural sound packages. Gathers news in the field independently. Assist in gathering and posting stories on-line and to air. Must have the ability to visually tell compelling stories. Operates video camera and audio equipment creatively in diverse conditions and at times under extreme deadlines. Operates all live technology (i.e. Live U, KA trucks, etc.). Drives and operates company vehicles in a safe and defensive manner. It is an essential part of all newsroom employees to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on the employee’s day off he/she may be required to participate, if requested. Varied hours may also be required based on the needs of the department. From time to time may be required to produce newscasts to help cover sick/vacation time of others. As part of the news team, holidays that fall Monday through Friday will be worked, time-off requests are approved by management. No vacations will be approved one week prior and during television-rating periods.
Maintenance Engineer (Broadcast)
Edward R Murrow Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY/WMYT the FOX O&O severing the Charlotte, NC region is seeking a Broadcast Maintenance Engineer to manage the technical operations of the station in compliance with FCC, OSHA, and Corporate Engineering Standards and practices that meet SMPTE/IEEE and ATSC and other applicable specifications. The ideal candidate will install new technologies and provide necessary operator training to match department workflow. As needed, this position supports repairs and maintenance of the facility. Ideal candidate must possess an in depth knowledge of broadcast technical operations including IP based equipment. Extensive knowledge and experience with hardware, software, and multiple OS of servers and PC’s is required. Ability to work with any manufacturer on applications. Basic understanding of networking devices on multiple LANs and connecting to WANS is a plus. Strong organizational and communication skills a must. Ability to implement written procedures and directives. An understanding of multiple formats of video and transport streams and a current working knowledge of IT and broadcast equipment is a must. Ideal candidate must have a clear working knowledge of multiple digital media formats and basics of transcoding with the ability to maintain satellite operations. Maintain confidentiality regarding company information. Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience of a minimum of 3 years working in a TV broadcast news environment.
