The FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a video editor. WJZY-TV is looking to hire a talented and quick-thinking editor who can juggle packages and VO-SOTS along with special projects in a high-pressure news environment. Experience with digital non-linear software is a must; knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is a plus. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Content Management systems like BitCentral and should be willing and able to pick up a camera and shoot news when needed.
Education: High School diploma is required; some college education is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one year editing news or entertainment programming.
Photojournalist must have an eye to shoot, edit and gather sound from newsworthy events, locations or people for use in newscasts by performing the following duties: Shoots and edits breaking stories, live shots and other news stories as assigned. Occasionally writes packages and/or assembles natural sound packages. Gathers news in the field independently. Assist in gathering and posting stories on-line and to air.
Must have the ability to visually tell compelling stories. Operates video camera and audio equipment creatively in diverse conditions and at times under extreme deadlines. Operates all live technology i.e. Live U, KA trucks, etc. Drives and operates company vehicles in a safe and defensive manner. This includes driving in heavy metropolitan traffic, at night and in bad weather. Edits videotape for playback for air. Operates microwave trucks. Maintains vehicle and news gathering equipment properly.
Assist with newscasts outside the normal work schedule at time of severe weather conditions or breaking news. Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines. Must be involved in Social Media. Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX. Supports Local News Service as assigned. Regular attendance is required. Has ability to work a flexible schedule. This position reports to the VP, News Director. Oversees the daily operations of the weather department by performing the following duties:
Must have experience in severe weather coverage and knowledge of industry-standard broadcast weather computer and radar systems. Must be able to sustain severe weather coverage, esp. during tornado warnings. Must be a great communicator and tell a compelling weather story especially on days when the weather is quiet. Must demonstrate experience in use of alert systems to disseminate weather information across multiple platforms. Must excel in social media and be willing and able to win weather coverage versus other local meteorologists on social platforms. Must have ability to shoot, edit and report stories as well as do traditional weathercasts. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred. Performs the essential duties and responsibilities of a weather anchor for assigned newscasts. Schedules weather personnel. Works with vendors and suppliers to keep weather equipment fully functional and up to date. Prepares and implements a severe weather plan. Establishes a philosophy for the best delivery of weather information to the public. Assists with the maintenance of story boxes in the newsroom computer system including updating files and noting possible story ideas. Reviews newscasts to ensure objectives are attained. Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines. Attends and participates in all scheduled meetings. Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX. Anchor / DJ
WJZY, the FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC is looking for a News Anchor/Digital Journalist. A prime position is open in a great Southern city. Our new morning anchor will be a highly-motivated journalist first and foremost. The anchor must be able to handle hard news with the same skill as light interviews and cooking segments. Do it all, while posting to social media and engaging viewers/fans/followers. This job is for you, if you want to become an integral part of the Charlotte community. FOX46 is part of the newsroom of the future movement and you will be expected to shoot, write and edit your own stories. We’re looking for a newsroom leader. A minimum of 3 years’ experience reporting and anchoring news is required. Excellent communication and writing skills for both broadcast and digital platforms are required. Some training will be provided, if needed. A bachelor’s degree in communications preferred.
Producer / Booker
The Producer/Booker is a news content expert responsible for growing our audience through the coordination of programming and news department segments, series and quests by performing the following duties: Conceptualizing, producing and booking highly creative and localized segments for the morning newscasts. This includes post and pre-game shows. Conceptualize, execute and enhance the vision and philosophy of news content management. Oversee content of newscasts and proactively act as the “go-to” person for booking compelling and relevant guests for Good Day Charlotte during the weekdays, weekends and post and pre-game shows with a focus on audience growth. Participants and experts should resonate with a large portion of the Charlotte market. Greet, escort and ensure guests are properly equipped with mic and any other equipment the guest (s) might need during the weekday morning show. Encourage guests on GDC to post on social media to their fan base before and after appearances. Assist with taking photos. Develop creative new ideas and segments in a professional manner to keep the shows fresh with local content for all newscasts including GDC. Must attend all
editorial meetings during shift. Act as a liaison with the Promotions department to assist with the booking
and execution of satellite live shots to support high profile guests and series. Identify and communicate with Promotions department which stories and/or shows need to be cross-promoted. Oversee gathering of viewer advocacy stories and vet which ones are relevant enough to air. Creatively use skills to produce
great TV. Utilize networks of contacts (i.e. PR) to secure celebrity guests visiting Charlotte. Develop contacts in other markets to borrow successful concepts. Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Communication. News Production preferred. Must possess a minimum of five years’ experience in a television newsroom or comparable. News Operations Manager
The news operations manager reports to the VP/News Director and Assistant News Director. This person is responsible for the day-to-day news and administrative operation. Supervises all field operations for WJZY/WMYT, including the supervision of all field crews for News and "Good Day Charlotte" and Editors; Also responsible for the booking, scheduling and assigning of personnel and equipment for all field related operations; Assists in the evaluation, budgeting and purchasing of all field related equipment. Maintains equipment and constantly monitors systems for accountability. Oversees all aspects of news coverage including daily assignments, coverage of big events, as well as planning; Responsible for the manner in which breaking news is covered and how the desk reacts to big stories; trains, coaches and monitors the progress of Digital Journalists and Photojournalists. Maintains and troubleshoots all newsroom equipment. Helps plan special projects including special programming and live remote shows. Works closely with Production Operations Manager. Responsible for production of stories to include: setting up the story, interviews, writing, and graphic coordination. Research stories online and on telephone with appropriate sources and contacts.
