Friends remember former dispatcher for CMPD shot and killed in East Charlotte

- Police are continuing to investigate after a former dispatcher for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police was found dead, shot multiple times, in the 4900 block of Central Avenue on Saturday morning.

Those who knew Jeffery Johnson, 49, say they’re still in shock to learn he's gone. Friends say Johnson was witty, kind-hearted and would give you the shirt off your back. 

Officers responded to the 4900 block of Central Avenue on Saturday morning around 10:47 a.m.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Medic say Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering from gunshot wounds.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.

Who killed Johnson remains unknown, and friends and family are hopeful that person will be found and brought to justice.
