Police: Man charged in shooting death of friend

- A 17-year-old boy has died after police say he was shot by 20-year-old Robreece Pickett at 852 Horseman Drive in Rock Hill around 10 p.m. Saturday night.

The York County Coroner’s Office has identified the boy as Jaterreon Thorne who was a resident of Rock Hill.

Investigators say Thorne was with friends when a handgun discharged and killed him. Pickett was handling the gun when it went off.

Police have charged Pickett with involuntary manslaughter and unlawful carry of a weapon.

Picket’s bond has been set at $115,000.

This incident has been ruled accidental, not a homicide.

Autopsy and toxicology testing on Thorne will be conducted Monday afternoon. Results can take several weeks.
