Waxhaw's Fox's Pizza says new construction blocking business

- Fox's Pizza in Waxhaw says it no longer has a parking lot because of a new development project.

The pizza shop was using a town-owned parking lot located next door for the previous 13 years -- that is until a local developer working on restoring a nearby mill asked to buy the parking lot from the town.

Fox's Pizza says it couldn't keep up on a bidding war with the developer Waxhaw Ventures on the property.

"And it was just like a slap in the face since we've been here 13 years," Fox's owner Rick Hodge said.

The town says the developer is willing to work with Fox's Pizza on parking -- but that won't be until construction is finished up on the property.

The town manager says that could be in 2017.

"While I'm disappointed that it's come to this....the owners of Fox's Pizza have known about this for many, many months," mayor Steve Maher said. "And they have benefited for the past 13 years from being able to use and profit from a parking area that's not theirs. The town could have long ago closed this off for liability reasons but chose not to."
