CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they have located the suspect vehicle involved in a fatal-hit-and-run in east Charlotte.
Earlier Tuesday afternoon, detectives were notified by the Mint Hill Police Department that they had received a tip that a vehicle matching the description of the wanted van was located in the 9800 block of Idlewild Road.
Detectives responded to the scene and confirmed that it was the suspect vehicle.
They said the van is currently being towed to police headquarters where it will be processed by Crime Scene technicians.
Earlier this week, CMPD released a photo of the suspect vehicle taken from surveillance video from a nearby convenience store.
The vehicle was described as a white Ford E-150 Cargo van with possible South Carolina license plates, a silver star-shaped front right rim, with no hubcap on the back right tire and damage along the right side of the van, including the front right corner.
Police said 6-year-old Anthony Santos Castellon-Rivera was hit by a car and killed in the 1300 block of Eastway Drive around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Officers said Anthony and his family were attempting to cross the street when a white work van with a ladder rack on top fatally struck the boy.
Witnesses said the van came to a stop, the driver got out of the van and then re-entered the van and drove off.
Anthony was transported to Carolinas Medical Center and died soon after.
The driver who fled the scene was wearing a blue shirt and jeans and is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-30's with curly black hair.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked to call Detective S. Williams at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
Family and friends gathered at the site on Sunday to pray for Anthony and his family.
