Names released of those involved in Lake Norman boat explosion

- Five people were on board a boat when it exploded in Lake Norman around 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 30.

One female was airlifted to the hospital with severe burns. Another male was transported by ambulance, according to North Carolina Wildlife officers. One person was treated at the scene.

Authorities have released the names of those involved as Timothy John Noyes, 29, boat owner and operator, Haleigh Elizabeth Lipford, 28, Shane Kelly Evans, 23, Dillon Ambrose Duncan, 26, and Bailey Victoire Johnson, 27. 

Duncan was transported to the hospital and is now in Intensive Care. 

Authorities said Johnson was the woman who was airlifted to the hospital with severe burns. 

Police were in the area near Slanting Bridge Road when they heard the explosion. Officers said they were on the scene within seconds and pulled the five people out of the water.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

The boat was severely damaged and placed near the shore. Crews pulled the boat from the water late Monday evening.
