Crash involving 18-wheeler leaves one dead in Stanly Co.

- A Norwood man is dead after officials say he crashed into an 18-wheeler on Highway 52 in Stanly County on Friday, according to Highway Patrol.

The York County Coroner's Office says the man's name is Jeffrey Aldridge who died at the scene.

Troopers say Aldridge was traveling northbound when he ran off the road. In attempt to get back onto the road, he overcorrected and crashed into an 18-wheeler head-on.

Authorities are still investigating as to why Aldridge ran off the road and whether he was speeding or driving under the influence.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to Carolina Healthcare System in Albemarle with minor injuries and has since been released.
