Black Lives Matter protesters "adopt" cops

- CMPD Central Division Officer Mike Campagna forged a bond with two Black Lives Matter protesters in early July -- Patrick Jones and Tony Wright -- and now they're looking to brings even more "black and blue" together.

"We're the same, we love one another," Jones said. "Their job is to protect us so we're going to do as much as we can to support them as we protect us.

Jones has organized an Adopt-A-Cop program at Romare Bearden Park on Sunday, July 31 at 6 p.m. Dozens of CMPD officers will be paired up with young adults, predominantly black males.

The goal is to develop friendships that last.

"Just getting to know each other as people," Campagna said. "So once again we can break down those stereotypes of what the world is telling us -- and look at what's in front of us as reality."
