Pedestrian hit, killed in south Charlotte identified

- One man is dead after he was struck by a car in south Charlotte late Saturday night.

Police officers were called to the 1500 block of Providence Road to investigate a collision involving a man who had been fatally struck by a car. Medic pronounced David Eugene Flowers dead on scene.

The investigation revealed that 21-year-old George Pexos had been driving a 1999 Volvo S70 Sedan traveling north on Providence Road in the right lane. Flowers was attempting to cross Providence Road and stepped off the curb directly into the path of the Volvo. Pexos applied the brakes but did not have enough time to avoid hitting Flowers. Pexos suffered minor injuries.

Police say drug, alcohol and excessive speed are not contributing factors in the crash for the driver of the Volvo.
Flowers was not in a crosswalk or crossing at an intersection when he was struck. Police believe Flowers may have been impaired at the time.

CMPD is still investigating the crash.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or the Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-432-2169.
