I-85 accident truck driver says he is lucky to be alive, after he was trapped for over four hours

Jackson Musyoka tells Fox46 his steering wheel spun out of control that caused the accident on I-85 that backed up traffic for more than 12 miles on Thursday. After the crash, his left leg was amputated.

"They tried to pull me but they could not pull me because my leg was stuck,” Musyoka tells Fox46 in an interview you will only see on Fox46 Charlotte.

Emergency crews had to cut the bottom of the truck to get Jackson out and use tow trucks to keep the vehicle from sliding down the hill. He hung upside down for four and a half hours. Rescuers could only get him out by cutting off his leg.

“I refused… I told them no don’t touch my leg. Then I gave them consent… I told them, ‘You know what? I have seen people without legs before…cut it! Take it off!’”

Musyoka had just finished two food deliveries in Hickory. He was headed to make one final delivery in Lexington, South Carolina, before heading home to Texas. Thankfully no other vehicles were involved in the crash.  Jackson says he is the luckiest man alive and wants to thank all the rescuers that came to his aide.

“The men and women that was with me there, I would like to thank them. And just tell them to keep doing a good job… to keep helping people.”

Even if he only has his right leg, Musoyka says he’s not done yet! He has never been in an accident before or missed a delivery. After everything that has happened, he still wants to drive delivery trucks.

“I like to deliver on-time… and I will deliver.”
