Matthews Alive comes to life after Friday night storms

- Crowds of people are taking over Matthews Alive- the town of Matthews annual Labor Day weekend event- that was canceled Friday night because of heavy rain and storms.

Now that mother nature has settled down and the weather outside is nothing short of beautiful, residents didn't hesitate to attend Matthews Alive on Saturday that kicked off with a parade.

Families, kids and friends came together laughing, clapping and cheering as school marching bands, horse drawn carriages and classic cars went by them one-by-one.

In addition to the parade, the Matthews Alive Labor Day celebration offers a number of festivities, including delicious food, unique arts, fun games and carnival rides, family activities and diverse entertainment.

Board members and volunteers with Matthews Alive as well as community groups are dedicating their weekend to working the festival areas.

This year's Matthews Alive will run through the entire Labor Day weekend.

Saturday: 9 AM to 9 PM

Sunday: 12 PM to 9 PM

Monday: 9 AM to 5 PM

Matthews Alive, located at the corner of John and Trade streets in historic downtown, has contributed over $1,300,000 back into the local community.
