Sunflowers and purple ribbons offer a bright welcome into Kensington Elementary School. Several signs say "We love you Ms. Guo".

The principal, Dr. Rachel Clarke, said students and staff wore purple and brought in sunflowers on Monday in support of their third grade Mandarin teacher.

"As a principal of a school, you don't want to hear about a student being hurt, about a staff member being hurt. Part of your heart just crumbles. My first instinct was to get in the car and get to the hospital. She's a part of our family," Dr. Clarke said.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Ruijuan Guo, 33, was robbed and shot in the 100 block of East Park Avenue at 11:33 p.m. Friday night.

When officers arrived to the scene, Guo was suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported with life-threatening injuries by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center.

"I talked to Euphie. I held her hand. There were so many visitors coming in," Dr. Clarke said.

Principal Clarke said Guo's boyfriend, Nathan, and his family have been at the hospital. Guo's family is expected to arrive Tuesday night from China.

"We are making plans to greet them and take care of them when they are here. We're going to be here for them just as Euphie has been here for us taking care of the children," Dr. Clarke explained.

GoFundMe site for Ruijuan Guo has reached over $50,000. Guo taught at Kensing Elementary School, according to the GoFundMe. She was involved in the cultural immersion program and taught her children totally in Chinese.

Anyone with information about the robbery or shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
