Three people are dead after a car went airborne and struck large trees in the Steele Creek area on Saturday, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police were called around 2 a.m. to 8315 Steele Creek Road where they found a blue, 2001 Ford Crown Victoria that had ran off the road to the right.
They say the car continued traveling on the grassy shoulder before going airborne and running into several trees. The front seat passenger, 34-year-old Jason Derrick Lee, was ejected from the car. Lee and the rear seat passenger, 38-year-old Alphonso Jermaine Christian, were both pronounced dead on scene.
Medic transported 29-year-old Tyrell Orlando Paige, the driver of the Ford Crown Victoria, to Carolinas Medical Center Main. Paige later died at the hospital.
Officials say all three victims were speeding and not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
