SWAT team investigating standoff at Mint Hill apartment

Mint Hill Police and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's SWAT team have had a busy morning investigating a case involving a barricaded man who is now custody.

Police say Edward Allen Wold Jr. fired shots toward officers at Victoria Park apartments at 4501 Stoney Trace Drive early this morning on Jan. 2.

"I thought it was fireworks, you know people still celebrating New Year’s,” said Jose Santos.

Authorities say neighbors were evacuated.

A CMPD negotiator made contact with Wold and convinced him to surrender.

No one was injured.

"This is a dense area with apartment complexes on every side and multiple people in all of the buildings. We were very lucky that no innocent person was struck,” said Lt. John Rowell, Mint Hill Police Department.

Wold faces charges of possession of a firearm by felon and felony attempted first degree murder. Police say more charges are possible.

Detectives are still investigating and the NC State Bureau of Investigation has been called to assist.

As more information surfaces, police will provide an update.
