Fatal shooting at Beatties Ford marks Charlotte's first homicide of 2016

CHARLOTTE - Charlotte Mecklenburg police are investigating a homicide that left one man dead early Sunday morning on Jan. 3.

Police have arrested Shelton Andre Kimble on murder charges after they say he shot Tyrone Matthew Burch on Beatties Ford Road shortly after midnight.

Kimble is currently in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives have determined that Burch and Kimble knew one another and that the shooting was not a random act of violence.  Authorities say an altercation led up to the shooting.

CMPD Public Affairs will provide updates as new information develops.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
