3 arrested after Charlotte vehicles sprayed by bullets

CHARLOTTE - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged three men in connection to a shooting that took place around 4:43 a.m. Sunday at S. Caldwell Street.

Police have charged Howard Kevin Wright, Kevin Demetrius Thompson and Dereke Terrence Bolton after 40-50 shots were fired into two vehicles and the lobby door of the Hyatt Hotel.

During a traffic stop at E. Fourth St., police chased Wright who fled from a Nissan Altima with an AK-47. Officers caught Wright in the 700 block of W. Fifth St.

Thompson and Bolton were apprehended without incident. Officers located two additional weapons in the vehicle.

Police collected multiple fired shell casings that they say were consistent to the firearms collected from the suspects.

All three suspects were transported to police headquarters to be interviewed by Central Detectives.  They were transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and were charged with three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm in city limits.  Thompson and Wright were also charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Police say no one was injured in the shooting.

Detectives believe the shooting was not a random act of violence.
