Police respond to church shooting near Asheville

- Haywood County dispatch received a 911 call concerning shots fired from the vicinity of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Waynesville, N.C.

The Haywood County Sheriff's office says the call came in at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. Officers arrived on scene at the Maple Grove Baptist Church off Stamey Cove Road. Officers say there was one man in the church at the time of the shooting and gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and police. No officers were injured. Emergency Medical Services was called in to assist the suspect.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate.
