Highway Patrol identifies armed robbery suspect killed in crash


An armed robbery led to a police chase that ended in a crash on Crowders Creek Road in Gaston County, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

Around 4:30 p.m. officers received a call concerning an armed robbery at the PNC Bank at 500 S. New Hope Road. 

The suspects fled the scene and police followed, leading to a car chase. At some point, money flew out of the window and the suspects ended up crashing the car. 

Police said one of the suspects, identified as Stuart Harld Bryson, 54, died in the crash. The other was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with injuries.

York Highway and Crowders Creek Road were blocked off. Witnesses were being interviewed in the investigation and the NC Highway Patrol is investigating the car accident.
