Car catches fire after dragging scooter on Albemarle Road

A man is suffering a broken ankle after a car hit him while he was riding a scooter in southeast Charlotte on Saturday.
Police were called around 1:30 a.m. to the 7100 block of Albemarle Road where a man had been hit by a car. His injuries are non-life threatening.
The driver fled the scene dragging the scooter with his vehicle. Responding officers followed the debris trail left by the scooter and eventually located the suspect when he pulled into an apartment complex on Tremaine Court.
At that point, the suspect's vehicle caught on fire from the dragging scooter. Officers found the car fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot.
Once the suspect is released from the hospital, he will be charged with DUI and hit-and-run.
The names of the people involved in this incident have not been released.
