Man arrested in homicide of 31-year-old Iraq war vet

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Javaris Roberts that took place in the 600 block of Grandin Road in early July.

Police have charged 26-year-old Breyon Quintrell Goosby with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by felon.

Goosby has been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke with Javaris' mother, Nancine Bowman who told us this was the first opportunity her son had in a long time to be on his own, have his own place and lease. He had been doing the right thing, he was responsible and just started to really live life.

"He was a great son and helped me care for my special needs child, all of his life," Bowman said. "He was not only my son, he was my best friend as well."

His mother said Jarvaris served in Iraq and loved jumping from planes and cooking for everyone in the military.

"We'll be remembering him as a loving young man that was supportive and made everyone laugh when he came around, he was the life of the party," Bowman said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
