Crash involving pickup truck closes Pineville-Matthews Road

Two men were sent to the hospital on Sunday after a crash on Highway 51/Pineville-Matthews Road where their truck caught fire, according to Medic.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the one-vehicle fatal crash at the 7000 block of Pineville-Matthews Road around noon.

William Justin Brown was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck heading southeast on Pinevill-Matthews Road with Anthony Edward Cross in the passenger seat.

The truck was pulling a utility trailer. The truck entered a slight curve to the right on Pineville-Matthews Road. The truck continued straight though the curve into the opposing lanes, ran off the road to the left, traveled down an embankment and rolled laterally, according to police.

During the rollover the truck and trailer separated. The truck came to a rest on it's roof in the grass and caught fire. Charlotte Fire and Medic responded to the scene.

Cross suffered sever burn injuries from the fire and was taken to CMC-Main where he is in critical condition.

Brown suffered minor injuries and was taken to Novant Medical Center-Main where he was screened for impairment. Brown was charged with driving while impaired and upon his release will be additionally charged with felony serious injury by motor vehicle, according to police.

Excessive speed does not seem to be a factor. The crash is under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
