Local Church has contributed over $250k to local charities from Christmas Eve offerings

Over the past 5 years, Sharon United Methodist Church (currently meeting at Regal Cinemas at Philips Place) has contributed a total of over $250K to various non-profits from their Christmas Eve Offerings.  Each year two organizations are chosen to receive their Christmas Eve offering.  Pastor Kyle Thompson and the SUMC Community Outreach ministry select two organizations prior to December.  Each is selected based on the church community outreach focus on:  fight against homeless and hunger, support for at risk children and families, and fight against human trafficking.

The Urban Ministry Center, Justice Ministries, Pinewood Elementary Freedom School, Rise Against Hunger have been recipients as well as New Story Church in Winston-Salem and Haywood Street Church in Asheville, both missional churches that minister to homeless and at risk individuals and families.  This year, based on our 2016 Christmas Eve Offering, SUMC is sponsoring 5 to 6 Rise Against Hunger meal packing events partnering with other churches in Charlotte as well as with New Story and Haywood Street Churches.

Pastor Kyle’s messages at Christmas center around Christmas not being our birthday but let’s celebrate Jesus’ birthday by giving to Jesus equal to what we spend on all gifts to others.  This has been a powerful message that has made a significant difference in the impact we can make in our stated focus areas and inspired overwhelming generosity in the congregation.  100% of Christmas Eve goes directly to the chosen organizations.

Sharon United Methodist Church would love for you to join with us in making a difference in our community.
