CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department investigators were called out to the 3600 block of Freedom Dr. near I-85 following a deadly wreck Saturday around 9:30 p.m.
Officers say pedestrian Reginald Clark was struck by Paul Anderson who was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey van traveling southeast on Freedom Drive in the right lane.
Clark attempted to cross Freedom Drive and stepped off the curb directly in front of the Honda. Anderson struck Clark despite applying his brakes.
Clark died on scene, according to Medic. His family has been notified of his death.
Officials believe drugs, alcohol and excessive speed did not play a role in the crash. Clark was wearing dark clothing at the time of the collision and was not in a crosswalk or crossing at an intersection when he was hit.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
