Wounded Purple Heart Veteran will have home worked on by new contractor for free

- FOX 46 Charlotte was able to share some good news with Ronald Eason, a wounded Purple Heart veteran who was scammed out of thousands of dollars by a shifty contractor.

Purple Heart Homes is helping make Eason’s home more accessible—free of charge.

Contractor Scott LaClaire has to shake is head at the shoddy work he now has to fix. He says he’s never seen anything like it in a home.

“It's been one thing after another. I've busted my rump to get it right for them. How can you not?” said LaClaire.

Eason paid Selina Piazzaa of Queen Bee Remodeling $12,000 to convert his garage into a bedroom and bathroom, but he says before she finished, she up and left, even taking the materials with her that he says he and his wife paid for.

“How in the world can you be trying to do a job and then just take off and leave after you get all the money you can get?” Eason said.

LaClaire says he had to fix drainage issues in the bathroom, as well as electrical problems, not to mention drywall the entire room--all things Piazzaa was supposed to do.

“One word explains it my friend: disaster,” LaClaire said.

While he wants to laugh, it's no laughing matter. Some of the electrical issues LaClaire says could've caused a fire, leaving this veteran who walks with braces and a prosthetic without a way of getting out.

“I don't like to talk about it really, because every time I talk about it I be hurting so bad inside” said Eason.

“It's alright buddy, we'll have you in there Wednesday,” LaClaire told him.

FOX 46 is going to keep working to get results for the Easons.
