CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Ronald Eason, a wounded Purple Heart veteran, now has a new attachment on his home that makes it easier for him to get in and out.
“The only thing I want now is to make sure no other vets fall into the same mess we fell into,” said Eason.
He’s talking about the contractor Selina Piazza, who owns Queen Bee Remodeling. She took their money and materials then ran off leaving their home in an unfinished disarray.
“It was supposed to have been $7,600 dollars. Altogether we done spent $24,000 and something on getting this place together,” said Eason.
Money the Eason’s didn’t have. Ronald said he got one donation of $20 dollars from his niece but, he’s going to give it back.
“No matter what, I got this man paid for all that he’s paid out and everything. Now, I can just start over again, you know, building myself back up,” said Eason.
The Eason's filed police reports against Piazza, whose business goes by more than half a dozen names, but so far, she hasn't been caught.
“Yeah, I forgave the woman but still I can’t help from thinking and feeling so let down,” Eason said.
Despite those feelings, he said he's blessed and just focusing on what's next. The Eason’s need to move all the furniture in as soon as possible because Ronald is scheduled for surgery, Monday, to treat his lung cancer.
“I’ve survived more than that before so I know I can survive this,” said Eason.
Ronald told FOX 46 he just wants to make sure, no matter what the outcome is, that his family is taken care of. In the meantime, Purple Heart Homes is working to finish the entrance to the new room.
The task of converting the garage into a bedroom and bathroom is complete, but Ronald still needs a porch and a ramp so he can get in and out of the house with his scooter.
Several CMPD officers have agreed to Get Results for the Easons by moving furniture into the room, and FOX 46 wants to lift his spirits before he undergoes a lung surgery by having the community help out as well.
The plan is to meet at the Eason’s home, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. If you'd like to join us, directions to the home can be found here:
