Man dies in wrong-way crash on Wilkinson Boulevard

- A man driving the wrong way has died after he hit another car around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in West Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers say 58-year-old Micky Gale Howard was speeding in a 2013 Ford pick-up truck along the eastbound lanes in the 7000 block of Wilkinson Boulevard in the wrong direction when he struck the left front fender, the driver door, rear left tire and both trailers of a Kenworth tractor.

Ronald Darrin Hunt, 47, was driving the Kenworth in the eastbound left lane when he saw the headlights of Howard's vehicle approaching, however he could not change lanes, officials say. He was able to pull over to the right lane and stop. Hunt was left uninjured.

Medic pronounced Howard dead on scene on the median and the left westbound lane. Officials say he was speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and may have been driving under the influence.

CMPD is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. plok
