Police arrest suspect in shooting death of man at Statesville home

- UPDATE: (3:50 p.m. 7/4/16) - The Statesville Police Department arrested a local man after they said he shot another man Sunday afternoon, killing him. 

Officers said at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 4, they received a tip on Desmond Thompson's possible whereabouts. 

Police responded to Windrush Apartments on Signal Hill Drive, where they located Thompson in an apartment at the complex. 

Thompson was taken into custody without incident. He's being held at the Iredell County Detention Center without bond on one count of murder. 


Police are searching for a man accused of murder during an argument at a home in Statesville on Sunday.

Statesville Police responded to a shooting around 1:30 p.m. at 1216 Wilson Lee Blvd where they discovered the victim, Anthony Eugene Harper inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.

Authorities say Harper was shot by Desmond O'Neil Thompson, 36, of Iredell County. After the altercation, Thompson fled the scene on foot.

Iredell County EMS also responded the scene. Harper was transported directly to a medical facility in Winston Salem where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Statesville Police.

Investigator Sharon Watts obtained warrants on Thompson for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
