CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. - Deputies are investigating after a skydiver was found dead in a wooded area near Skydive Carolina on Sunday morning during Skydive Carolina's annual CarolinaFest skydiving festival.
Bond Springer, 32, and Avalon Wolf jumped out of a plane in wing suits and collided mid-air, according to deputies. Wolf deployed his parachute and landed safely, but was transported by EMS with a severe, broken leg.
Rescue teams suspended their search for Springer until Sunday morning because of storms and darkness.
Deputies say around 8:52 a.m. on Sunday, Springer's body was discovered. The Chester Co. coroner says Springer fell 14,000 feet from the air and that his parachute did not open.
However, officials from Skydive Carolina say both skydivers were experienced and executed proper skydiving techniques. They believe no malfunction occurred with any of the equipment.
