Teen charged with DWI, 3 sent to hospital after crash in east Charlotte


A 17 year old is facing several charges, including DWI and not having a license, after he ran a red light and crashed into a car in east Charlotte Sunday morning.

Jesus Eduardo Sanchez, 17, is charged with DWI, driving after consuming under 21, felony hit-and-run, felony serious injury by vehicle and no operator’s license, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.  

Sanchez was driving a F250 Ford super duty pick-up truck along north Sharon Amity Road and Vernedale Road when he ran a red light and struck a Pontiac G6 coming from Verndale that was making a left turn onto Sharon Amity.

The female driver of the Pontiac is suffering from life threatening injuries and the two who were trapped in the vehicle after the collision are currently being treated for minor injuries. All three people in the Pontiac were sent to the hospital.

Police are looking into additional charges.
