NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - In this season of giving, sometimes what's under your tree doesn't quite suit. So the naughty and even the nice may find themselves secretly regifting.
An American Express survey found 75 percent of Americans think regifting is socially acceptable and about half of them admitted to doing it last Christmas.
Etiquette experts urge care when considering recycling that unwanted gift. Be sure you don't get caught. Thomas P. Farley -- a.k.a. Mr. Manners --says don't regift in the same gifting circle so you don't risk someone recognizing the gift you are regifting. Also, snoop on social media avoid regifting among mutual friends. And never regift something that is sentimental.
So the next time you get a gift that you don't really need, be sure to take the labels and the price tag off before you give it again next year.
One more tip. Regift only good gifts. A mug from the 1990s or PJs covered in candy are rookie blunders. Once you've got it down rejoice and regift.
