Victims identified in murder-attempted suicide in east Charlotte

- A woman was found dead with knife wounds in an east Charlotte apartment complex around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a suicide threat call in the 6400 block of Woodbend Drive at the Devonwood Apartments. Once on scene, officers found 43-year-old Maria Rocha deceased with stab wounds and 45-year-old Miguel A. Hernandez suffering from self-inflicted knife wounds.

Hernandez is currently in stable condition at Carolinas Medical Center. Once he is released, he will be transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder of his girlfriend, Rocha.

Police say the investigation indicates that this is a murder-attempted suicide incident and that Rocha and Hernandez individuals were involved in a domestic relationship.

The investigation is still ongoing. CMPD will release more information as it becomes available.
