Officials identify kayaker who drowned in Lake Wylie

Emergency crews with the York County Sheriff's Office and Carolina Dive have discovered the body of the kayaker who went missing around 9 p.m. on Friday along Joslin Park Road in Rock Hill.

He has been identified as 45-year-old Frederick Robinson of Rock Hill, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources assisted YCSO in the search that lasted over two hours. Two divers and other crews resumed the search around 8 a.m. Saturday and were working 10-14 feet deep, according to York County Emergency Management.

Tony, the lead investigator with SCDNR, says crews used sonar and conducted a land search in attempt to find Robinson.

DNR also says Robinson was having a cookout with co-workers before he went missing and drowned.

According to his friends, he worked at Sanmina, a technology industry, in Fort Mill.

The incident is still under investigation.

We will provide updates as we receive more information.
