Main concerns for Charlotte area ahead of Florence are flooding, power outages

- As Florence nears, power outages and flooding are the top two concerns for us here in the Charlotte area.

The nearby town of High Shoals is still recovering from a storm that hit last month, knocking out power for the entire community.

Clean up efforts are still underway there.

"We've just had crazy damage around here," said High Shoals Resident Danyel Healy.

She remembers all too well what her town looked like just one month ago.

"There has been a lot of damage," she said.  "You can still see branches on people's houses and stuff when you drive through."

In fact, clean-up efforts are still underway-- even one month post storm.

"It took about three days to get power restored," said Healy.

Now, its de ja vu for residents of the small town community.

"There's a lot that could possibly go wrong," said Resident Bobbie Greer.

The main question people are asking, though-- is this:

"Are we going to be without power?" asked Greer.

"I am a little nervous," said Healy.  "Mostly about the trees falling on my house and the power obviously."

People there are now preparing for the impacts of a very unwelcomed guest-- Hurricane Florence.

"I just hope that everybody gets through this okay and we all survive this," said Healy.  "And it's not going to cause too much damage for us.  My heart goes out to the people on the coast because they're going to get it worse than us."
