NWS confirms at least 16 tornadoes associated with Hurricane Florence

- At least 16 tornadoes associated with Hurricane Florence have been confirmed, according to the National Weather Service.

Of the 16 confirmed so far, half occurred in North Carolina.

Storm surveys are continuing and the NWS says it is likely that additional tornadoes will be confirmed during the next several days.

Hurricane Florence is blamed for at least 37 deaths across the Carolinas. That includes those of two women who drowned when a sheriff's van taking them to a mental health facility was swept off a road.
