High school teacher facing sex charges involving student found dead

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - A body found in Moncks Corner has been identified as a Berkeley County high school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office tells media outlets in a statement that deputies performing a welfare check found 51-year-old Donald Blair Sr. dead Wednesday near the Cypress Gardens Boat Landing after he missed a meeting with the school district.

Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran tells news outlets that Donald Blair Sr. was arrested Monday on criminal sexual conduct and sexual battery charges. He was placed on administrative leave.

Blair was a mechatronics teacher at Goose Creek High School.

Detectives investigating a complaint of a consensual sexual relationship between a teacher and a student believe Blair had a relationship with the female student, who was 15 years old at the time, in late 2014 and 2015.

Deputies say the relationship took place at the school.
