Charlotte, NC - Emergency officials are evaluating the structural integrity of an old, abandoned church in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte after dozens of bricks fell from the church's bell tower.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department requested the assistance of the Charlotte Fire Department around 11a Thursday after the bricks were found on the ground near the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Central Avenue. Hawthorne Avenue is currently closed.
The church has been abandoned and is slated to be demolished for an upcoming apartment complex project.
Fox 46 News is at the scene and will have updates from officials once they finish inspecting the building.
