Mystery surrounds young woman's shooting death in her car

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are conducting a homicide investigation after one woman was found deceased inside a vehicle Tuesday from apparent gunshot wounds.

The woman has been identified as Chirrelle Nicole Scott, 29. Officers said her family has been notified of her death.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke to Scott's father Michael Scott. He says she was driving home from work and doesn't know what Chirrelle could've said or done to end up shot and killed in her car.  Overall, she was a hard worker and a great daughter.

According to police, the incident happened at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday, October 11 at the intersection of E. W T Harris Blvd. and N. Tryon Street in University City.

Officers said they were called to the area after a person called 911 stating a vehicle had been shot into at the intersection. Upon arrival, police found a vehicle in the roadway with a woman in the driver's seat suffering from gunshot wounds.

Scott was pronounced dead on scene.

Scott's father called the shooting a cowardly act and hopes police find who did this.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit were on scene Tuesday canvassing the area to determine whether there were any witnesses to this incident.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.

CMPD is still searching for the shooter at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or you can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
