2nd Break-in Suspect Arrested; other Shot by Homeowner

A second suspect has been arrested in a home break-in that left another suspect shot-to-death by the homeowner.

Investigators say two men broke into a home on River Bend Road in Claremont in Catawba County. The homeowner was home and called 911. He heard someone kick in a door and fired a shot, killing Vernon Bobby Dixon. The second suspect got away.

Friday the Catawba county sheriff's office arrested Brandon Lineberger and charged him with felony breaking and entering.

The homeowner's father tells FOX 46 he saw the suspects just before the break-in but thought maybe they were supposed to be at the house. Everett Fox said, "I happened to look up there, and I seen that van sitting up there, and I thought it was somebody just working on something for him.'

Later, Everett Fox spoke with his son and found out things turned deadly. Everett said, "He said he heard a noise, and he got up, and by the time he got in there in the hall, he had taken his gun with him, and they busted through the door at him."

The sheriff adds that he does not expect the homeowner to be charged in the case.
