Texas Sen. Ted Cruz won his home state and Oklahoma on Super Tuesday, big victories in his quest to catch front-runner Donald Trump and pull ahead of Sen. Marco Rubio.
The freshman senator was declared the projected winner in both races by Fox News. The Oklahoma win and the near-do-or-die victory in Texas -- his second and third -- keeps his campaign alive.
Cruz won the Iowa Republican caucus in February. A loss in his home state would have been a major blow to the future of his campaign.
Rubio’s best opportunity to win his first state this election cycle was dashed when Trump was declared the winner in Virginia.
The Florida senator had invested significant time and resources toward a victory in the swing state of Virginia. He finished a close second, according to Fox exit polls.
