Girl without hands wins penmanship award

- A determined little girl who was born without hands has won a penmanship award.

According to Greenbrier Christian Academy, Anaya Ellick has better writing than many of her classmates.

She doesn't use prosthetics. When she writes, she stands at her desk, and holds a pencil between her two arms.

"Anaya is a remarkable young lady. She does not let anything get in the way of doing what she has set out to do," said Anaya's Principal, Tracy Cox.

According to the school, the handwriting contest is an annual event to promote legible handwriting. To compete in the special needs category, a student must have a cognitive delay, or an intellectual, physical, or developmental disability.
