Johnny Manziel assault case will be sent to grand jury

Dallas police will refer the assault case against Johnny Manziel to a grand jury.

The ex-Texas A&M QB is in legal hot water for an incident involving his ex-girlfriend nearly a month ago that started in Dallas and ended in Fort Worth.

Dallas police said Thursday afternoon their investigation into the incident has been completed, but they won't release any details since the case has been sent to a grand jury. Manziel faces a potential Class A misdemeanor Assault/Domestic Violence charge.

According to Manziel's ex, the quarterback struck her several times and hit her so hard on the left side of the head she lost hearing for days in her left ear. A Tarrant County judge recently granted her a protective order against Manziel, good for two years.

The problems started at Uptown Dallas’ Hotel ZaZa on Jan.30 when the ex-girlfriend and Manziel got into an argument in his room over another woman. She said Manziel quickly became violent and threw her on the bed, grabbed her by her hair and hit her on the side of the head hard enough to rupture her eardrum.

Manziel took her down to his car where, the affidavit said, she pleaded with a valet telling them "Please don't let him take me. I'm scared for my life" and the valet replied "I don't know what to do."

On the way to Fort Worth, she said Manziel said he would drop her off and take his car and go kill himself. She said later he told her to shut up and threatened to kill her too.

After the two arrived at her Fort Worth apartment, the ex-girlfriend said she feared for her life and grabbed a knife from her kitchen and went after Manziel -- who ran outside. She also went outside and screamed for help.

There's no timetable on when the case will be heard by the grand jury and when any indictment could come out.

The Cleveland Browns, Manziel's current team, released a statement after the incident distancing themselves from the troubled quarterback. Manziel was also dropped by his agent.
