FORT MILL, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - More than 1,000 new jobs could seen be coming to Fort Mill, SC.
That's with the move of Roundtrip Mortgage Servicing Corporation from Charlotte to York County.
"What this exemplifies is a good company growing in our marketplace," said York County Economic Development Director David Swenson.
The company is moving its headquarters to the site of the old Knights Stadium property in Fort Mill.
"This is a great opportunity for us in terms of expanding and being able to move to Fort Mill," said Roundtrip Marketing Vice President Roman Vega.
The company's $34 million investment in York County is expected to create 1,100 jobs.
"We think it's a good thing," said Swenson. "It helps our community grow, it creates new jobs, and brings tax-based growth. It also helped the company stay in the region-- so those employed can stay here and remain employed in this market."
York County continues to rapidly grow.
The close to 300 acre property will be developed over time with other corporate jobs and commercial developments-- possibly even a hotel.
"We've grown 3.5 percent in population growth the last two years," said Swenson. "And our employment growth has been on a 2.5-3 percent growth rate."
"York County is growing tremendously," said Vega. "For us, it's close enough to Charlotte that it doesn't displace our employees and we're excited about that and having that opportunity to continue to build our company in South Carolina."
"It brings income and tax-based growth for us at the county level," added Swenson.
Roundtrip's new headquarters should be operational by the third quarter of 2019, which is when hiring for new positions will also begin.
