1 dead, 4 injured in crash in southeast Charlotte

- One person is dead and four others injured following a serious wreck Thursday evening in southeast Charlotte. 

It happened the intersection of Monroe Road and Greylyn Business Park Drive. 

William Graham, Jr. was attempting to turn left from Greylyn Business Park Drive onto Monroe Road, when he turned directly into the path of oncoming vehicles causing a four-car collision. 

The area was closed Thursday evening in both directions. 

One driver, 71-year-old Barbara Dennis, was killed. Medic transported the three other drivers and one passenger to Novant Health-Matthews for non-life threatening injuries. None of the drivers appeared to be under the influence, according to police.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told Fox 46 Charlotte that Mrs. Dennis was not wearing her seatbelt.

William Graham, Jr., 68, was charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff upon his release from the hospital.

The crash is under investigation to determine if excessive speed is a contributing factor.
