Lincolnton man charged with threatening neighbors, shooting one person

- A Lincoln County man is charged with threatening his neighbors and shooting another man in a separate altercation, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. 

On Tuesday, March 15 deputies said they were dispatched to a disturbance call in the 600 block of Bish’s Way off of Asbury Church Road. 

While deputies were on their way to the scene, the 911 caller said shots had been fired.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, identified as James Matthew Ferro, of Lincolnton, NC, lying on the ground with a shotgun wound. 

Deputies found the suspect, Gary Vaughn Ball, 53, of Lincolnton, NC, and secured the scene.

The victim was transported to CHS-Lincoln with non-life threatening injuries. 

Ball was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury. The Sheriff's Office said Ball was arrested Wednesday afternoon after deputies responded to a second call on Bish’s Way where Ball had allegedly threatened three near by residents. 

He faces an additional three misdemeanor counts of Communicating Threats.

Ball is in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond. He is scheduled for a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on Thursday, March 17.
