UPDATE: Two teens charged after shooting at Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers

- A 13 and 14-year-old were taken into custody and charged late Wednesday night following a shooting in the 2700 block of Milton Road in the North Tryon Division.

The 14-year-old was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting within the city limits, possession of a firearm by a minor and resisting arrest. He was released to the custody of his parents, according to CMPD.

The 13-year-old was charged with resisting arrested and possession of marijuana.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept., officers responded to the area around 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17 in the 2700 block of Lanecrest Dr. for an assault with a deadly weapon call.

The caller told police a person was shooting and had assaulted a family member.

While police were on their way to the scene, additional information was received updating the location of the suspect who was now on Milton Road near Barrington Drive. 

Plainclothes officers were in the area and observed a person shooting in to the air. The suspect ran across the street with another person.

Officers said they followed the suspects and as they were exiting their vehicle one of them fired more rounds and fled into the woods.

Police said they chased the suspects, and after a brief foot pursuit took them both into custody. A firearm was found nearby.

No injuries were reported.
