Pregnant, abused horses rehabilitated in Union Co.

- Nearly 600 animals were seized in an abuse investigation in Raeford, N.C. this January and now a handful of the animals are being rehabilitated in Union County.

Carolina Equine Rescue and Assistance took in three of 40 horses seized in the massive investigation. All three of the horses were pregnant when the rescue took over.

Dogs and cats were also rounded up.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals assisted the Hoke County Sheriff's Office with seizing the animals from The Haven -- a 122-acre unlicensed, self-described animal rescue.

The two owners of the facility were arrested on charges of animal cruelty.

CERA said it's barn is nearly full but it could not turn away the chance at trying to help out these horses.
