Convicted felon arrested after fake bills, 9mm found in his possession

- Rock Hill police arrested a man on numerous charges after counterfeit bills were found in his possession.

The incident happened on Tuesday, March 29 in the 1100 block of Mt. Gallant.

Officers said they saw a silver Mercedes Benz, without a license plate displayed in the near. After pulling the vehicle over the driver, Scott Caldwell, 23, said a dealership in North Carolina had placed the plate in the rear window.

Police asked for Caldwell's driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. While Caldwell was getting his paperwork, the officer saw an open can of Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade on the back floor board, as well as several open bottles of beer.

Caldwell could not provide a driver's license to police, only a South Carolina ID card. Police asked Caldwell to step out of the vehicle, and asked if there was anything in the vehicle they should know about. Caldwell replied, stating there was nothing.

While looking inside the vehicle, police located a large sum of money. The officer on scene noticed the twenty dollar bills all had the same serial number on them. The officer also noticed the bills were not cut straight.

A Smith and Wesson 9mm was also located in the center console with the money. Caldwell told police he was prohibited from possessing a firearm as he is a convicted felon.

Police said there were 21 counterfeit twenty dollar bills located in the center console of the vehicle, with other items. Caldwell was arrested on scene for Forgery. He was transported to Rock Hill city jail.

According to police, 21 counterfeit twenty dollar bills, a paper cutter, 25 sheets of paper with printed twenties, $1,846 in cash and the Smith and Wesson 9mm were all placed into evidence.

Caldwell was also cited for Driving Under Suspension, as he was suspended for an unpaid ticket from August 2015.

This case remains open and active.
