Underground poetry coming to surface in NoDa

Poetry is alive and well in Charlotte's NoDa district.

Every Thursday evening you'll find dozens of poets shaping their art at Up Stage. Jaycee Cowan and Boris "Bluz" Rogers have helped run Charlotte's scene but they've also taking up a national following.

"We bring people from all over the country, we have a network," Cowan said. "...We have a full poetry movement going on so we work together...all across the United States we come together."

On any given Thursday night, not only will you see local poets -- but artists from across the country rolling into their event.

Cowan said there's really one mission.

"I want you to come here and open yourself up, give yourself to the crowd," Cowan said. "...we want to touch everybody."

Their open mic poetry kicks off at 10 p.m. with a live band every Thursday.
