Police: Suspects involved in deadly hit-and-run of motorcyclist arrested

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a man and woman involved in the deadly hit and run of a motorcyclist.

Gerson Gutierrez was arrested at a hotel on W. Sugar Creek Road without incident Monday morning. His girlfriend, Shaquala Davis was also arrested at the hotel, according to CMPD.

Gutierrez was charged with felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving while license revoked. Davis was charged with harboring a fugitive. 

On Monday afternoon, April 4, officers responded to the 8000 block of Mallard Creek Road at the intersection of Keaton Avenue around 5:15 p.m.

Keith Ricks was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling southwest on Mallard Creek Road.

Officers said a green minivan turned left from Keaton Avenue directly into the path of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle and rider to fall to the pavement. The motorcycle and rider slid on the pavement into the opposing lane and was hit by a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Charyle Pearson.

Medic responded to the scene and pronounced Ricks deceased from injuries in the hit and run.

The green van left the scene after the crash and turned right onto W.T. Harris Boulevard and was last seen traveling southeast towards I-85, according to CMPD. Detectives found the green minivan on Friday, April 8.
